A HAT TRICK by Jonathan Speak, which brought his tally to 101 league goals, wasn't enough to earn Finn Harps a point against Sligo on Saturday night.
The visitors always looked as if they would secure victory and were two ahead after just 19 minutes. Johnny Kenny opened the scoring in the 13th minute and six minutes later Dale Hawlin got the second.
Finn Harps reduced the deficit in the 32nd minute when Speak hustled Hawlin off the ball and scored from close range.
However, even that goal did not worry Sligo, who could have scored twice before they eventually found the Finn Harps net again. Ian Gilzean, who was guilty of both misses, made up for his mistakes with a well struck shot in the 50th minute.
Speak again reduced the Sligo lead to one with a close range header in the 65th minute but Johnny Kenny grabbed his second five minutes later to make it 4-2.
With only two minutes left, the Finn Harps striker completed his hat trick, but when Denis McArdle blew the whistle on his last national league match, it was the Sligo fans who went home happy.
