With suitable apologies, no doubt, to a rather notable non-golfer by the name of Mozart, a Canadian school of music have devised an opera, The Master's Stroke, in which the leading character is Don Giannuari. Half-man and half-god, and inspired by the American tour player of the same name, he hadn't lost a golf match in 400 years.
To maintain his unbeaten record, however, the Don kills a course marshal and attempts to avoid punishment. It is not mentioned whether he goes on to kill several others, as seems mandatory for a villain in grand opera. Either way, his longevity makes Don January an appropriate model, given that the Texan, at 47, became the oldest winner of the Vardon Trophy in 1976.
