SCHOOLS RUGBY: Terenure College 17 Belvedere College13REPLACEMENT LOCK Adam Somerville was the saviour for Terenure College with an injury-time try to knock Belvedere College out of the Leinster Junior Cup in the first round at Donnybrook yesterday.
Belvedere right wing Jack McCaffrey crossed for a try from inside his own half in the 16th minute, outhalf Aidan Power kicked the conversion and two penalties for a 13-5 lead at the break. For all their pressure, Terenure struggled to make their superiority tell. Openside Niall Lalor did breach the defence in the first half, but, in general, they lacked a little composure.
Terenure took over on the restart as Jack Wright moved across to fullback to make an impression. In the 36th minute, tighthead Cathal Owens made no mistake from close range to set up a thrilling finale. It looked as though Belvedere would hold their line until Somerville touched down with outhalf Danny McCormack landing the conversion.
