Ridsdale questioned Leeds United will be the subject of further inquiries by the Football Association after their chairman Peter Ridsdale answered questions yesterday about the club's involvement with the disgraced Norwegian agent Rune Hauge.

Graham Bean, the FA's compliance officer, met Ridsdale at Elland Road to discuss Hauge's role in Rio Ferdinand's £18.5 million transfer from West Ham to Leeds in November 2000. Bean plans to interview several other people connected with the deal over the next fortnight and might then need to question Leeds again.

Ridsdale, who has denied any wrongdoing, has been cleared in an internal audit by the club after Hauge was paid around £1.75 million for his part in three transfers. The Leeds chairman is likely to be increasingly marginalised when a new managing director is appointed at Elland Road in the next few weeks. Guardian Service

Crowe awarded

Bohemians striker Glen Crowe rounded off another outstanding season last night when he picked up his second Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Personality of the Year award at a function in Dublin's Conrad hotel.

The 25-year-old again played a crucial role in the Dublin club's title success, and his form was recognised before Christmas when he became the first locally based player in 16 years to represent Ireland at senior level.

Barry Ryan, the former UCD goalkeeper, who has signed for Shamrock Rovers since helping to keep the students in the premier division for next season, was also a recipient on the night while former Shamrock Rovers and Ireland winger, Frank O'Neill, was presented with the association's special merit award.

St Patrick's Athletic Trevor Croly, meanwhile, has denied rumours linking him with a move to Rovers.

In Brief . . .

Manchester City are to hold talks with Howard Davies, the former deputy governor of the Bank of England, about succeeding David Bernstein as chairman. Rumours that Francis Lee wants to return as chairman have been denied. Meanwhile, FIFA has announced that the 2014 World Cup will be played in South America.
