FAI hope to resolve bonus issue: FAI officials are expected to meet Liam Gaskin today in an effort to resolve his complaint that his role in the events that led to Mick McCarthy being paid a bonus of €168,000 last summer had been misrepresented.
An outside intermediary will be used in an attempt to obtain agreement on how to deal with the matter which became public after Gaskin, who has threatened legal action, swore an affidavit in which he alleged that both he and McCarthy were told to ask for the bonus prior to the manager signing a new contract.
Rebrov finally exits
Tottenham misfit Sergei Rebrov (right) has passed a medical and is expected to complete a move to Turkish outfit Fenerbache within the next 24 hours. The clubs have agreed an 18-month loan deal for the Ukrainian international striker with an option for Fenerbache to sign him on a permanent basis.
Rebrov, a club record £11 million signing by George Graham in 2000, did not figure in the first-team plans of Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle.
Toshack dismissed
John Toshack was sacked as coach of Italian second division side Catania yesterday after less than three months in charge.
Monday's 1-0 defeat to southern rivals Napoli was the final straw for Toshack whose side are struggling to avoid relegation. Earlier this month Catania's president, Luciano Gaucci, gave the Welshman the dreaded vote of confidence which often precedes a dismissal.
Woodgate and Fowler confusion
Newcastle claim they have tabled a bid for Leeds defender Jonathan Woodgate - but the Yorkshire club have denied receiving one.
"I can confirm that Newcastle United have made a bid for Jonathan Woodgate and would consider it to be a fair price," the Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd said. Leeds maintain no bid has been made.
Robbie Fowler's agent has scotched rumours that the striker's move to Manchester City could be revived. "He (Fowler) is happy where he is," said George Scott.
Back at the back
Steve Finnan returns from his one-game suspension when Fulham take on Manchester City at Maine Road tonight. Charlton have signed Morocco international Tahar El-Khalej from Southampton and the defender has gone straight into the Charlton squad for tonight's clash at West Brom.
