Sligo Rovers 2 Glentoran 0:SLIGO ROVERS will travel North full of confidence for the second leg after their win over Glentoran in this quarter-final tie at the Showgrounds last night.
Mark Quigley’s 63rd-minute goal doubled their advantage after Romauld Boco had given them a half-time lead.
Glentoran finished the game with 10 men after skipper Colin Nixon was sent off for a second yellow card in the 84th minute.
The men from Ulster proved a major disappointment and they never threatened to score.
A Ross Gaynor shot from a free- kick caused panic in the visitors’ defence in the 13th minute and Gaynor’s clever flick on in the 22nd minute was met by Lee Lynch but the ball cleared the visitors’ bar.
Boco was in on goal on 28 minutes after a Glentoran player lost his footing 10 yards out but good covering by the visitors averted the danger. A superb save by Elliott Morris denied Ventre a minute later but the goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent Boco from breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute.
