Slickly, who had finished fourth behind Montjeu in the French Derby, returned to winning form when coasting to a two length victory over stable companion Indian Danehill in the Group One Grande Prix de Paris at Longchamp yesterday.

Andre Fabre was winning the race for an incredible eighth time in the last 11 runnings. Fabre said of the Thierry Jarnet-ridden winner: "This one mile, two furlongs seems to be his ideal trip, the Irish Champion Stakes will probably be his next target."

Peter Chapple-Hyam's Brancaster continues a poor record of British raiders in the race by finishing last of the eight runners.

Brian Meehan's Tumbleweed Ridge spearheaded a British 1-2 when making all the running under Nichael Tebbut to beat his old rival - the James Fanshawe trained Warningford - in the Group Three Prix de La Porte Maillot over seven furlongs.

The winner trainer said: "He tried to fight me when we were saddling up but other than that he is a lovely horse. Seven furlongs is his trip though we might be tempted by a six-and-a-half furlong race at Deauville."
