De La Salle, Skerries withstood a second-half barrage in their tightly contested Leinster Schools' Junior Cup second-round match against Good Counsel, New Ross in Arklow yesterday.
De La Salle went ahead in the sixth minute when winger Martin Kirwan got on the end of a fine back movement to score in the corner, however out-half Conal Keane missed with the conversion. Good Counsel put up a formidable defence with the eventual winners' second try only arriving five minutes before the interval from Bryan Cullen. However, Good Counsel showed considerable improvement in the second half and camped inside the Skerries 22 but their try did not arrive until one minute into injury time when Eugene Clune crossed the line following a forward charge.
