Portumna member Ann Hynes achieved a single figure handicap with a brilliant 62 nett off 10 in the club's Shell qualifier. Hynes was around in 72 gross which was just two over par and gave her victory by three shots over Judith Barry and saw her exact handicap trimmed to 8.8.
Nuala Fagan went even lower with a 61 nett to win the medal at Slade Valley, but she did have 33 shots at her disposal. Another fine effort came from Mary McBride in Forrest Little. She won the singles competition with an amazing 11 up and surely won't be off 44 for much longer.
