Leitrim were denied victory with the very last kick of the game in this entertaining Connacht Football League game in atrocious weather conditions at Garrymore. They led by a point in the second minute of injury-time when referee Haulie Beirne awarded a free to Mayo straight in front of the Leitrim goal and Maurice Sheridan easily converted.
Leitrim led 1-2 to 0-2 at the break. Their goal came on 26 minutes after a well-worked move started by man-of-the-match Fintan McBrien and finished by Pat Farrell.
Mayo put a good run together in the second half and three points in as many minutes by Edward McDonagh, Sheridan and Pearse O'Rahilly put the home side ahead with 12 minutes remaining. Fine saves from Mayo goalkeeper Paul Keane, from a penalty, and his Letrim counterpart Gareth Phelan followed, before Leitrim took the lead with points from Rooney and McBrien, only to see it cancelled out.
