BLACKBURN striker Alan Shearer plans clear the air talks with the Ewood Park club over newspaper speculation that he is set to leave Rovers.
Shearer, who has been linked with Manchester United, Newcastle and several Italian clubs, was speaking for the first time since returning from holiday in the Bahamas.
Shearer said yesterday "Since returning from holiday, I have been made aware of some newspaper stories of the past two or three weeks and will doubtless have a chat with Chairman Robert Coar when I return to training at the end of the week to find out the reality behind the headlines." Shearer will resume pre-season training on Friday, an exact calendar month after England's elimination from Euro `96.
Shearer added "I will probably just loosen up on Friday and return to full training from Monday onwards I have been keeping myself fairly fit swimming and jogging on the beach.
"I have never been a great preseason trainer, so the idea of starting a few days late seems a good one to me," joked Shearer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are giving trials to Partisan Belgrade's 17 year old midfield starlet Marco Marcovic.
The teenager is rated as one of the hottest properties in Yugoslavian football. He has attracted attention from a whole host of top European clubs, but has been offered the opportunity of a possible permanent Old Trafford deal, if he can sufficiently impress in the next fortnight.
Despite the fact he has been playing his club football in Yugoslavia, a permanent transfer, would not be difficult to arrange as Marcovic holds an EU passport because of Italian descent.
Said Alex Ferguson "Marco comes to us very highly recommended. He looks to be a very good young player indeed and I'm sure that he will develop over the next couple of years. It is very much a case of wait and see with him, but the boy will be given every chance.
A major shareholder of Leeds yesterday began a High Court bid to block a planned takeover of the football club which would provide an extra £12 million for new signings.
Peter Gilman, one of three board members who are principal shareholders of the Premiership club, says the proposed takeover by Caspian Group will water down his holding and he may be forced to work with people he does not wish to. United and two other directors Leslie Silver and William Eotherby will contest the action and are seeking to have it struck out.
