Swimming: A new club has been formed and registered in Galway arising from the current difficulties concerning Swim Ireland's suspension of the Sharks SC.

The new club, known as Fins SC, largely consists of former Shark SC swimmers who had been banned "from all club and Swim Ireland activity" under the Sharks banner.

Swim Ireland still await a resolution of the issues in Sharks, which mainly concern new club rules and the refusal of swimmers to sign up to them.

As members of the new club, former Shark swimmers will be eligible to take part in upcoming galas in Tuam next week and in Claremorris later this month.

Irish Sports Council chairman John Treacy will be meeting concerned parents of the Sharks club in Limerick tomorrow. A move is afoot to have the club officially disbanded. It is understood that the parents group is against the formation of Fins SC.

The new club Fins is backboned by 31 of 43 Shark-registered competitors, some of whom are of international standard and Connacht prospects of great potential.

These ambitious competitors had been refused training and competition since September as a result of being caught in the crossfire.
