The immovable object of Dubai Millennium takes on the irresistible force of Sendawar as two of the best horses in the world clash in a fascinating battle for the Prince Of Wales' Stakes at Royal Ascot today.
Upgrading this mile-and-a-quarter contest to Group One status has produced the race of the season.
But many will look no further than Dubai Millennium for the winner. Godolphin's colt won all bar one of his nine career starts, including the Prix Jacques le Marois and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes last season.
And he put up a scintillating display to lift the Dubai World Cuo at Nad Al Shaba in March.
But the four-year-old will not have things all his own way, and the Aga Khan's Sendawar is a worthy opponent.
The Alain de Royer Dupre-trained colt has swept all before him in France, and Ascot holds no fears for him as he made a successful visit to this track 12 months ago, beating Dubai Millennium's stable-companion Aljabr in the St James's Palace Stakes.
Sendawar is at his best coming from behind off a strong pace and he will benefit from his market rival's front-running style. Expect jockey Gerald Mosse to deliver a winning challenge inside the final furlong of what promises to be a race to savour.
A strongly-run race on a sound surface will bring out the best in Calcutta, who has a cracking chance in the Royal Hunt Cup.
When last presented with ideal conditions at Doncaster last September the four-year-old was a highly impressive two-length winner from Indian Lodge - whose subsequent Pattern racewinning efforts have hardly let the form down.
Calcutta has almost certainly been laid out for this race by trainer Barry Hills, who lifted the prize with Showboat last year and has justifiably high hopes of a repeat.
