SCOTLAND manager Craig Brown yesterday forwarded his 22 man squad for Euro `96 across the Atlantic from Miami to UEFA with no surprises in his selection for England.

Derek Whyte of Middlesbrough takes the place left via injury to Alan McLaren of Rangers, so the 22 man group is exactly the same as the squad that is currently on at two match tour of America.

Scotland will work from three goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and five forwards for the group games against Holland, England and Switzerland.

Jim Leighton, at 37 the oldest member of the squad, is also the most experienced with 74 caps, but he can not be certain of his place with Andy Gram his rival for the goalkeeper's jersey.

Leeds United midfielder Gary McAllister will skipper Scotland with Colin Hendry the new vice captain following the withdrawal of Celtic's Paul McStay.

"Scotland has been to seven World Cup finals and once to the European Championships in Sweden four years ago," said Brown.

"There is a great deal of pride in our national team, but often it is burdened by unrealistic expectations. We have yet to get beyond the first phase, so perhaps this time the expectations are touched by realism.

"We have no superstars in this squad but, if we work as a unit, maybe, just maybe, we can earn that elusive qualification."
