BJORN SCHILLER, of Sligo, scored a Formula Ford double at Kirkistown, Co Down, on Saturday, winning the DHL Star of Tomorrow race to lead the second-placed Richie Ryans (Armagh) by a single point in the championship. His second race win gives him a huge lead in the RIAC Pre '90 Championship.

It was a successful day for southern drivers, with Derek Cunneely beating Wayne Douglas to take over the lead of the Bridgestone Formula Opel Championship.

Alan Ring, of Castleisland, made the long trip from Co Kerry to the Ards Peninsula well worth while with a win in the Ford of Ireland/Formula Ford Championship race which was fiercely contested by six drivers. Victory in the Dunlop saloon race will give Dublin driver Gordon Kellett that vital advantage going into the final two rounds.

A first lap pile-up caused the Formula Opel race to be stopped. Again Cunneely made an electrifying start off pole. The Dubliner set a blistering pace, with a new lap record of 56.22 seconds/96.814 mph (well below the previous best of 57.07 seconds) on his way to a dominant win over former champion Wayne D2ug
