Those who bet the 2 to 7 about the raging hot favourite Rumplestiltskin in yesterday's Moyglare Stud Stakes were made to severely sweat before Kieren Fallon's mount eventually won.

At the finish there was just a neck between the Aidan O'Brien-trained filly and the 25 to 1 shot Ugo Fire with the complete 100 to 1 outsider Ardbrae Lady back in third. But if the finish was exciting, the critical moment apparently came at the very start when Fallon was left holding his breath.

"We only went 50 yards and I got buried. I was lucky I was able to finish," reported the jockey, who subsequently dropped Rumplestiltskin out last and then made his run on the outside to hit the front at the furlong pole.

"It was the easy way out and it didn't suit because she likes to come between horses. And in the end I came there too soon. I would have won 10 lengths if she hadn't pulled up with me.

"She is the best filly around, I think. If she had run in the Lowther she would have won it. She will stay a mile well," Fallon added. O'Brien, winning the Group One prize for the fourth time in six years, didn't rule out another run for Rumplestiltskin this season.

"She only does what she has to do. She is probably only as good as she is racing against. A smart filly," he concluded before reporting that Powerscourt will miss the Man O'War Stakes next weekend after not being 100 per cent on Saturday.

It was also a good day for trainer Joe Murphy whose Ardbrae Lady ran above anything she'd achieved previously and earned a Group One placing at 100 to 1. "Today was our Derby!" grinned Murphy, who is based near O'Brien in Fethard.

Last year's Moyglare winner Chelsea Rose returned to win the Listed Dance Design Stakes and set herself up for a return to the track in two weeks time for the Blandford Stakes.

"Pat (Shanahan) said she is getting better with age and the good pace suited her," said Tracey Collins, daughter of the veteran trainer Con Collins. A Group One in Italy in late October is an end of season for Chelsea Rose. The Collins team also picked up the opening apprentice handicap with Persian Knight who provided jockey David Moran with a first ever success.

Injury prevented Abigail Pett from running in the Moyglare but there was valuable compensation for the Jim Bolger-trained filly who short-headed the favourite Aussie Rules in the final stride of the Group Three Round Tower Stakes. "She was in the Moyglare but she got an injury and we took her out at the cancellation stage because I couldn't see her making it," said Bolger afterwards. "She has made a speedy recovery and we could step up now for the Cheveley Park Stakes."

The first four placings in the Group Three Flying Five were filled by cross-channel trained horses with the Mark Wallace-trained Benbaun proving a length too good for the favourite The Tatling. Jamie Spencer rode the winner whose main aim now will be the big sprint in Hong Kong in December.

Declan McDonogh rode a double on Diamonds For Luck in the sprint handicap and Kestrel Cross. Fallon also completed a double on the Ballydoyle newcomer Art Museum in the last.

Meanwhile, Aidan O'Brien confirmed yesterday that Avalon will join his stable companion Scorpion in Saturday's Doncaster St Leger but added that no decision has been made on where Kieren Fallon will ride that day.

As well as the double-Ballydoyle assault on the Leger, Oratorio is on course to run in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown against Azamour and Motivator.

"Oratorio is coming on well and we're heading towards the Champion. He has two more bits of work to do," said O'Brien. "Scorpion is on course for the Leger and the plan is for Avalon to go as well but it will be a late decision about the riding arrangements. I'm just trying to get the horses there first."

The Ballydoyle team could also be represented at Doncaster by Amigoni in the Group Two Champagne Stakes on Friday and the 10-length Tralee winner Alexandrovich in the May Hill Stakes.

O'Brien and Fallon will be at Galway today and while Agenda could find it hard against Good Surprise in the Listed Oyster Stakes, there will be plenty of interest in the first start of Chenchikova, a full-sister to the double Derby and Breeders' Cup winner High Chaparral.
