A record field of 286 teed off for captain Tadgh O'Sullivan's prize at Royal Dublin on Saturday and Tom Murphy (17) came out on top with an excellent score of 42 points to win by one from club president Kevin Callan with John Abernethy relegated to third on a countback. Stephen Prendergast won the gross with 35 points. There was also two holesin-one with Peter Early aceing the 12th and and Liam Browne holing his teeshot the sixth.
In nearby St Anne's, Sean Andrews, a brother of captain Frank, led the qualifiers on the first day of the captain's prize with an excellent 66 off 22 handicap while Tommy McDonald equalled his age in shooting a 62 off 15 handicap to lead the second day qualifiers.
