ARIE LUYENDYK won yesterday's 81st Indy 500 race around the fabled 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. The Dutchman defeated team-mate Scott Goodyear of Canada by 57-hundredths of a second to capture his second title in a controversial race.
At the finish Goodyear began crying over another heartbreaking near-miss. The race had with a botched finish when officials gave mixed signals on a final-lap restart. "People here have got to shake some cobwebs because it's bloody stupid," Goodyear said. It's the biggest race in the world and they can't get it right."
