Although subjected to early pressure, the Westmeath side held out until the 14th minute when lock forward Thompson crossed for a Roscrea try which out half Garvey converted.

Once in front, Roscrea gained in confidence, and Garvey landed the first of three penalties 10 minutes later. Wilsons Hospital had a couple of penalty chances, which they failed to avail of before left winger O'Boyle crossed for, Roscrea's second try, and Garvey again obliged with the conversion.

The out half was on target with two further penalties for Roscrea in the third quarter, and he brought his points total to 13 when converting a late try by right wing Finn.
