Rincoola Abu, the Army mare that Captain Gerry Flynn rode to a superb double clear to clinch the Irish team victory in Falsterbo less than a month ago, is to miss next week's Kerrygold Horse Show after a bout of colic.
The nine-year-old daughter of Cruising was found to be suffering from a colic attack in the early hours of Sunday morning and was taken to Troytown veterinary hospital in Kildare. She was operated on for a slightly twisted gut and is reported to be making a good recovery, but will definitely not be starting in Dublin.
Flynn, who is currently second in the leading rider rankings in the Samsung Nations Cup series, has been named as one of the five from which the Aga Khan Cup team will be chosen at the RDS next week. Despite the loss of Rincoola Abu,Flynn has a good replacement in Carrig Dubh, the 11-year-old by Slyguff Joker which put in two foot-perfect rounds to seal the Irish win in Drammen at the end of June.
