LEAGUE OF IRELAND PREMIER DIVISION: Cork City 0 St Patrick's Ath 1RYAN GUY'S late strike gave St Patrick's Athletic a priceless victory at Turner's Cross last night.
The visitors made a lively start and should have been in front as early as the eighth minute when Gareth O’Connor teed up Stephen Maher 12 yards out but he drilled the ball over the crossbar.
David Partridge then gifted the home side a glorious chance with a short back-pass to goalkeeper Gary Rogers, but Denis Behan’s effort was pushed away for a corner by Rogers.
The Leesiders almost took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Behan was again denied by Rogers from a free-kick.
Dan Murray and Jason Gavin went close early in the second half, before Behan appeared to give Cork the lead. He tucked away Faz Kuduzovic’s cross but the effort was ruled out for off-side.
Cork pressed for a winner but they were caught on the break when Guntras Silagailis was dispossessed by O’Connor in midfield. He released Guy with an excellent through ball and the American attacker drilled the ball beyond Dan Connor.
