REVOQUE'S galloping companion, Panama City, captured the Chester Vase yesterday to heighten the prospect of a rematch between Entrepreneur and the Pertemps 2,000 Guineas runner-up in the Derby.

The colt's head victory from Ivan Luis fell short of Epsom form and has probably earned him a run in the Derby Italiano instead. And with only Dante Stakes-bound Monza of his Derby candidates still to run, owner Robert Sangster indicated that Revoque will line up at Epsom after the Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Ladbrokes are offering the colt at 9 to 2 "with a run" behind the 4 to 5 favourite Entrepreneur. He is 7 to 1 with William Hill and the Tote.

My advice would be to back him with a run but you will get as good a price about Revoque on the day unless the favourite goes wrong," Sangster said.

"The odds of Entrepreneur are ridiculous because he is not guaranteed to stay. His dam's pedigree is a sprinter's pedigree.

"On breeding Revoque won't, stay either but on his performance at Newmarket, he will. He's a very relaxed horse.

"Revoque is a lazy horse. He only lost seven kilos after Newmarket and he normally loses 12. He will run in the Irish Guineas next and then I should think the Derby"

Revoque cantered yesterday morning for the first time since the Guineas. "He's in great form," said Peter Chapple-Hyam.

"The Irish 2,000 Guineas is his next target and we will decide about the Derby after we've seen all the trials. He's not bred to get a mile and a half but he races as if he could get it.

"We supplemented Panama City for the Derby but after winning by a head that now looks a bit silly. He had to use his speed when staying is his forte and the Italian Derby could be his target."

Entrepreneur may be odds-on but there is no shortage of optimists not yet prepared to concede he has the Classic in the bag.

Frankie Dettori said: "I was very impressed with Entrepreneur. I hope something can come out of the pack to challenge him and hopefully it will be one of mine.

Pat Eddery said: "Entrepreneur is definitely top class. I followed him all the way at Newmarket and the way he travelled so easily he could have won over five furlongs.

"He's entitled to be odds-on but he is not certain to stay. If he does we are in trouble but we shall have to hope he doesn't."
