The English Premiership chairmen will today consider plans to have official time displays on 10-foot long boards at all grounds.
The electronic displays, sponsored by Swiss watch manufacturers Swatch AG, will show fans, players and officials how much of the 90 minutes remains.
And they will eventually be linked directly to the referee's watch in a bid to end confusion over how much time is added on for stoppages.
The proposal will be considered by the 20 Premiership chairmen at their meeting in London this afternoon.
If, as expected, the deal is approved, a full trial could be arranged later this season, with the displays controlled by the fourth official until the referee's watch is developed.
A Premier League spokesman said: "We do not discuss potential commercial arrangements in detail.
"However, this is under consideration and future negotiations will be taking place. There may be a case for piloting the use of stadium clocks in due course."
Hand-held boards have already been introduced this season to inform everyone of the length of injury time at the end of each half - a copy of the system used in the World Cup in France this summer.
The Daily Mirror said the Premier League agenda describes the plan as "unique and seeks to address a commonly recognised issue - that of consistency in the duration of matches played.
"Aside from the financial benefits, the agreement positions the FA Premier League at the forefront of technology in improving match timing with a world class brand as Swatch."
