Andrew Reid of the Larne club set an Irish senior record in the 100 metres butterfly during the opening session of the sixth Leisureland international meet at the Cranny Pool in Galway last night.
The 24-year-old clocked 55.38 seconds to snip just three-hundredths of a second from the old record of Declan Byrne, of the Trojan Club, which had stood since March 1993.
US Olympian Jon Olsen took the 50 metres freestyle, with Ireland's Nick O'Hare (Eastern Bay) third.
Two other home performers who performed very creditably were Niamh Cawley (Claremorris) and Lee Kelleher (Sunday's Well), who took first place in the 100 metres backstroke and 200 metres butterfly respectively.
