CHARLIE REDMOND returns to the inter county scene as Dublin make five changes for the trip to Castlebar for Sunday's Division Two match against Mayo. In addition, it has been announced that the goalkeeping position will be rotated in coming National Football League matches between former captain John O'Leary and David Byrne who played against Armagh a fortnight ago.
Redmond, who hasn't played for Dublin since the Leinster final, comes in for Ian Robertson with Ray Cosgrave moving to wing forward. Other changes see Wayne Daly come in at corner back, with Darren Homan losing out and Ciaran Walsh moving to full back, Paul Bealin returning to midfield, with Dermot Harrington dropping back to wing back in place of John O'Callaghan, and Martin Doran replacing Damien O'Brien.
Joe McNally, who but for his unavailability was to have played against Armagh, is named among the substitutes.
Mayo have left a vacancy at left corner forward. Tom Reilly, Denis Coen and David Heaney are in contention for the spot. Maurice Sheridan is named at left wing forward despite fears earlier in the week that injury would prevent him playing.
All Ireland champions Meath have made two injury enforced changes for the visit of Kerry. Stephen O'Rourke and Stephen Dillon are injured and indirectly replaced by debutants Ned Kearney and Joey Farrelly, both of whom have come up through the under age system in the county. The most interesting selection, however, is that of Evan Kelly at centre back. Kelly featured at corner forward in nearly all Meath's championship matches this year. Although he plays for his club in the forwards, there are those in Drumree who believe that centre back may ultimately be his best position.
Meanwhile Donegal's match with Cavan, scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed as a mark of respect to Pat Cunningham, the Donegal player who died this week as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash. The fixture will be played a week later, November 17th.
Derry have switched their Division One match with Cork from Ballinascreen to Celtic Park. According to county PRO Bernie Mullen, the pitch in Draperstown was inspected by Tyrone intercounty referee, Jim Curran, and in the light of a poor medium term weather forecast, the decision was taken to move the match. This will suit Cork who had earlier in the week sought the same switch because they are flying into Derry city on Sunday.
