WALSH SHIELD SEMI-FINALS: DIT 1-15 Carlow 0-15: A FIRST-HALF injury-time goal from DIT wing-forward Niall Quinn proved crucial as the students beat hosts Carlow at Dr Cullen Park yesterday.
Carlow opened the scoring with a point from Craig Doyle within 15 seconds of the throw-in and after Pádraig Phelan had levelled from a DIT free, the home side regained the lead through a point from Marty Kavanagh.
Points from Dean Curran and Paul Morris put the visitors ahead and it was a lead they never relinquished.
In first-half injury-time, with DIT 0-8 to 0-7 ahead, Quinn scored the game’s only goal.
A splendid 51st minute point from Carlow’s John Corcoran reduced the deficit to two points (1-11 to 0-12) but with substitute Brian Campion and the impressive Paul Morris then scoring points DIT held out for victory.
