Scotland mounted a gallant fightback but it was not enough to prevent a 27-22 defeat to Queensland in Brisbane yesterday. But, three days after losing 45-3 to Australia, coach Jim Telfer will have been pleased with his side coming back from 20-6 down.
Hugh Gilmore, on as a replacement for Derrick Lee, led the recovery. He dashed down the left wing to set up good Scottish position before Duncan Hodge's fourth penalty punished a punch thrown by the Reds' Mark Murray.
Gilmore then made a great tackle to force Raulini into touch after the Fiji an international broke down the right-hand touchline.
And it was his lively run before he was forced into touch 11 minutes from the end that enabled hooker Steven Brotherstone to dive over from the line-out for Hodge to convert.
The last 10 minutes was full of imagination and endeavour from the Scots, with little reward.
