Queen's proved too strong for Trinity in this Sigerson Cup first round match at an ice cold Pairc na Gael in Dundalk yesterday.
Queen's, who failed to pass the first hurdle for the last three seasons, got off to a good start thanks to a goal from Armagh's Derek Marsden after just 10 minutes.Trinity were tight in defence but they failed to find the clinical finish. On the stroke of halftime Queen's got the perfect boost when Cormac McAnallen scored their second goal to leave them 2-2 to 0-3 ahead at the break.Playing into the wind in the second half, Queen's continued to enjoy the upper hand with points from Colman, Morrison and McAnallen before Laois's Ian Fitzgerald scored for Trinity on eight minutes. The Dublin side rallied briefly with two consecutive scores from Donal Berry (a goal and a point) leaving just four points between the sides with 10 minutes to play. However, Trinity's challenge faded when substitute Barry O'Hagan netted a third goal for Queen's with five minutes to play.
