Kilkenny focus on minor matter

Kilkenny have more than the senior All-Ireland title to chase on Sunday as they also face-off against Galway in the All-Ireland minor final - a repeat of last year's final, which saw Kilkenny prevail.

Kilkenny will be bidding to extend their lead at the top of the honours table by winning the title for the 20th time while Galway will be bidding to win their eighth title.

"If Kilkenny get a run on us I think those little weaknesses that forced Liam (Sheedy) to make those changes throughout the year will be exploited because the confidence might not be there. If we can start well we have a chance but if we don't I don't know if we would get back into the game." - Former Tipperary player John Leahy, three-time All-Ireland winner, 1989, '91 and 2001

Kennedy going for six in a row

Sunday's hurling final is not the only All-Ireland title up for grabs this weekend.

On Saturday, also in Croke Park, Robbie McCarthy from Westmeath and Eoin Kennedy from Dublin will contest the M Donnelly All-Ireland 60x30 handball final.

Handball has undergone a dramatic rebranding exercise in 2009, with a new GAA handball logo for the sport, in addition to emphasis on a closer alignment to the association's structures.

Kennedy is bidding for an incredible sixth title in succession, while McCarthy will make his debut appearance in a senior final, and was one of the most successful underage handballers in the country before graduating to the senior ranks two years ago.
