PSV Eindhoven clinched the Dutch championship title for the 14th time in their history and the first since 1992 when they beat Willem II Tilburg 3-1 yesterday.

With one game to go, PSV have 77 points and an unassailable four point lead over Feyenoord, who beat Heerenveen 4-2.

Belgian striker Luc Nilis, the Dutch league's top scorer this season, put PSV in front in the 22nd minute. Three minutes later, Willem II's Finnish striker Joonas Kolkka saw goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus standing way off his line and equalised with a lob.

However, strikes from Wim Jonk in the 36th minute and De Bilde from a Boudewijn Zenden cross two minutes later gave PSV a two goal cushion.

Feyenoord's victory at least guaranteed second place in the league and with it the right to play in next season's European Cup. And it was fitting that captain Ronald Koeman and winger Gaston Taument, both playing their last home matches for Feyenoord, scored in their win. Lower down, Twente Enschede earned the last European berth with a 1-1 draw at home to NEC Nijmegen. They join Ajax and Vitesse Arnhem in the UEFA Cup. Domestic cup winners Roda JC will play in the European Cup Winners' Cup.
