Pipe's Lad to miss Grand National

RACING: Barryscourt Lad, winner of the skybet

RACING: Barryscourt Lad, winner of the skybet.com Great Yorkshire Chase at Doncaster on Saturday, looks set to miss the rest of the season after returning home lame.

The nine-year-old saw off Ryalux by a head in an exciting finish but trainer Martin Pipe yesterday confirmed the gelding, who was quoted at 20 to 1 for the Martell Grand National by William Hill, will now miss the Aintree showpiece.

"Barryscourt Lad was lame after the race and he won't run in the Grand National. I doubt he will run again this season, although we will have to see," said Pipe.

"Rodi Greene gave him a great ride yesterday and it was great to win the race. It's just a shame that the horse is not right now."

Pipe also enjoyed double success at Cheltenham landing the Grade One Cleeve Hurdle with Classified and the Ladbroke Trophy Chase with Lady Cricket while Cyfor Malta unseated Tony McCoy in the Pillar Property Chase.

The handler revealed the winning pair are on course for the Cheltenham Festival but the target for Lady Cricket is not yet decided.

Pipe added: "Classified will now go for the Stayers' Hurdle and I was delighted with him.

"Cyfor Malta is also fine after Tony McCoy was unseated in the Pillar, while we'll have to see about Lady Cricket for the Champion Chase.

"She's not quite top class but a very game mare."
