RACING NEWS: OLIVIER PESLIER will ride Sans Frontieres when he steps up to Group One company for the first time in Saturday’s Irish Field St Leger.

The Frenchman knows the Curragh well as he has won the Irish 2,000 Guineas on three occasions and also claimed the 1995 Derby.

His mount, trained by Jeremy Noseda, found his feet during the summer and won his last two starts in the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes and the Geoffrey Freer at Newbury.

“Olivier Peslier rides,” the trainer told his website yesterday. “I have been delighted with the horse and feel that he is in top order.

“I would be a little concerned if the ground went heavy and therefore he will keep an entry in the Prix Foy at Longchamp.

“The Irish St Leger is the ideal race for him and if he runs, he will have an outstanding chance.”

Meanwhile, the John Oxx-trained Roses For The Lady may not quite have rediscovered the form of last year so far in 2010, but a bold bid looks assured in the DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster this afternoon.

The four-year-old only won once last season but she ran the race of her life to finish second to Sariska in the Irish Oaks on bottomless ground at the Curragh.

After what was a gruelling contest, Oxx sensibly gave his filly the rest of the year off and she looked set for a big season when impressing on her reappearance in Listed company at Navan back in April.

It is a little disappointing she has been unable to add to that victory since, but she was far from disgraced in finishing third behind Tactic and Profound Beauty in the Curragh Cup next time on ground that was plenty quick enough.

She was below-par when third again on her latest start, this time behind the progressive Rajik, but again underfoot conditions did not play to her strengths.

Some cut in the ground on Town Moor is likely following the rain earlier in the week and with stamina and ground doubts about possible favourite Meeznah, Roses For The Lady looks a viable alternative.

Richard Fahey has made no secret of his admiration for three-time winner Wootton Bassett and he can boost his already substantial earnings in the Weatherbys Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes. He beat a very solid yardstick quite comfortably at York in a similar sales race last time and it will take a special horse to beat him here.
