Argentina coach Daniel Passarella has opted for a largely European-based squad for the World Cup in France later this month.

Only six of the 22 he named yesterday for the finals play for Argentine clubs. All the others play in Europe.

Midfielders: M Almeyda (Lazio), L Astrada (River Plate), S Berti (River Plate), M Gallardo (River Plate), D Simeone (Inter Milan), A Ortega (Valencia), J Veron (Parma). Forwards: A Balbo (Roma), G Batistuta (Fiorentina), M Delgado (Racing Club), H Crespo (Parma), C Lopez (Valencia).
