PARMA coach Carlo Ancelotti, the former AC Milan player and deputy manager of Italy's national side, was once known as Arrigo Sacchi's student. Yesterday, pupil turned teacher as Parma gave a soccer lesson to Sacchi's Milan, winning through Mario Stanic's first half goal.

It was Sacchi's first league defeat since he returned to Milan and left the champions seventh in Serie A.

To add injury to insult, Paolo Maldini suffered a fractured cheek bone from a flying elbow and George Weah limped off with a twisted ankle that is expected to keep him out for 45 days.

With Milan losing, second placed Vicenza falling to two goals from Sampdoria's Vincenzo Montella and Inter Milan drawing 1-1 at lowly Reggiana, Juventus stretched their advantage at the top with a 1-1 draw at Piacenza.

The European Cup holders, who had midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi sent off, led through an own goal from Settimio Lucci until five minutes from time when Daniele Delli Carri's equaliser halted their run of four successive league wins.

Juventus now have 29 points from 14 matches, six ahead of Vicenza and Napoli, who beat Lazio with a last minute goal.

In the Milan Parma game, the visitors dominated the first half and should have gone ahead when Dino Baggio beat the offside trap but missed the target. Instead, it was left to defender Stanic to head home a corner in the 45th minute with goalkeeper Angelo Pagotto helpless.

After the break, Milan's hopes of a comeback were compromised by defender Alessandro Costacurta's dismissal for a second bookable offence his second successive red card.

In the last half hour, Milan pushed hard for an equaliser but rarely looked like scoring as Parma used the pressing tactics long preached by Sacchi to keep the home side on the defensive.

"It was a real turn up and the best team won," said an impudent Ancelotti.

Naboli, who knocked out Lazio in the Italian Cup despite playing most of the second leg with nine men, again beat the Roman team.

Yesterday, at the San Paolo, goalkeeper Giuseppe Taglialatela denied Lazio with a superb double save from Igor Protti.

Then, with the referee looking at his watch, Brazilian Caio hit the post with a header, leaving his compatriot Andrea Cruz to poke home the winner.

At Genoa, a resurgent Sampdoria broke Vicenza's three month unbeaten record, a run that saw the Veneto club lead Serie A for the first time.

Vicenza had not lost since September 29th, but their confidence never recovered from Montella's two goals in nine minutes midway through the first half.

The win moved Sampdoria fourth, level on 22 points with Bologna, who drew 0-0 with Perugia, and Inter.

At Reggiana, Paul Ince was sent off for the second time this season as Inter narrowly avoided defeat to a club propping up the rest of the table.

The visitors needed a 64th minute equaliser from Frenchman our Djorkaeff to cancel out Domingos Pacheo's 42nd minute opener.

Ince was the third player after team mate Marco Branca and Reggiana's Giordano Caini to be sent off for protesting.

In the night match, Fiorentina beat Cagliari 2-0.
