DEAN OSWALD (Blackrock College) will fill the open side flank berth on the Leinster team to meet Borders in the Heineken European Cup in Melrose on Saturday. The berth had been left open when the team was selected earlier in the week pending a fitness report on Oswald.
He injured a hip playing for Leinster against Ulster in the Interprovincial Championship and missed the remaining matches in the interprovincial series. He has also missed their two matches to date in the European Cup. Oswald comes in for Stephen Rooney, who fills one of the two vacancies left in the replacements when the team was announced. The other berth will be filled by Colin McEntee (Lansdowne).
Shane Byrne (Blackrock) has withdrawn from the replacements because of injury and his place goes to James Blaney (Terenure).
The Munster team to play Toulouse in Toulouse on Saturday week will be announced tonight. Good news for Munster is that serum half Stephen McIvor, who sustained strained neck muscles in the win over Wasps is expected to be fit.
The Ulster team to meet Neath in the European Cup at the Gnoll on Saturday will be announced today.
. Connacht will be without their international outside half Eric Elwood, who is injured, for the European Conference match in Toulon on Sunday. Elwood's place will be taken by Owen Cobbe.
Bill Mulcahy returns at hooker for Barry Browne, and in the back row Neil Taylor and Kevin Devlin come in for Rory Rogers and Barry Gavin.
