SONIA O'SULLIVAN made a winning return to competitive running when she beat American veteran Mary Slaney in the mile at the Festival of Road Races in Honolulu.

The Irish woman won in a time of 4:26.43, with Slaney second in 4:28.53. Sinead Delahunty was fifth in 4:34.77.

Marcus O'Sullivan finished fourth in four minutes flat in the men's mile.
