TIPPERARY COUNTY Board chairman Seán Nugent has described the prospect of a marque name replacing Declan Ryan as Tipperary senior hurling manager as unlikely.
Nugent conceded there is “nothing to report” at the current time as the hunt for Declan Ryan’s successor continues.
Eamon O’Shea, the highly-regarded coach who worked alongside former manager Liam Sheedy from 2008-2010, had been heavily linked with the position.
But Nugent revealed O’Shea, Sheedy and another former boss, Nicky English, have indicated that they are unable to commit to the vacant post due to work commitments.
English has already ruled himself publicly out of the running but the news that Sheedy and O’Shea are also unlikely to get involved is a new development.
Nugent did stress he did not want to rule anybody out of running and that circumstances for a particular candidate could change.
Meanwhile, John O’Mahony could be in for a surprise return to intercounty management to take over as Roscommon boss.
The former Mayo and Galway manager has not ruled himself out of contention to take over from Des Newton.
“I was surprised to hear there was a vacancy. I am not saying I am not interested in a return at some stage in the future, but when that is I have no idea,” he said.
