Navan O'Mahony's 1-17 Castledaly 0-4: AFTER GAINING Westmeath SFC honours for the first time last month, Castledaly were brought down to earth with a bang at Navan's Páirc Tailteann yesterday as locals O'Mahony's cruised through to the last four in Leinster and a tilt with Kilmacud Crokes.
The Meath champions had four points on the board after five minutes and when Castledaly got their first score, a converted free by Michael Duffy, O'Mahony's had six points on the board.
They were not flattered by the winning margin and could have netted three or four goals.
David Bray scored three points in the opening quarter, with midfielder Mark Ward, Seán Keating and Shane McKeigue also on target. Castledaly almost got a goal after 28 minutes when MJ McLoughlin's shot came back off the bar and goalkeeper Mark Brennan kept out a rebound attempt.
Full back Kevin Reilly scored he O'Mahony's goal on 29 minutes. Just back from representing Ireland in Australia, Reilly gained possession from a quick free by Paddy Smith, to find the net and leave the scores at 1-7 to 0-3. Stephen Bray's score left it 1-8 to 0-3 at the break and despite Smith missing a clear goal chance after the restart, O'Mahony's cruised home.
