Leeds caretaker-manager David O'Leary is looking to help his club pull off the Italian job and improve on his previous trip to Rome's Olympic Stadium. The Yorkshire side were yesterday paired with Roma in the UEFA Cup in one of the top ties of the second round.

O'Leary played in the stadium in the 1990 World Cup, being part of the Republic of Ireland side which lost in the last eight to Italy.

Now O'Leary - who might only be in charge of Leeds for one game, against Leicester today, is looking for his side to reverse that result.

"Memories of that night are fantastic - the atmosphere was superb and the pitch great but we got beat 1-0, so hopefully the result will be different," he said.

"I hope that it'll be a great night for Leeds and I'm sure we'll have great support again. After going to Madeira in the last round we're certainly seeing some nice parts of Europe."

O'Leary, George Graham's assistant until the Scot left for Tottenham, has already revealed he does not want the Leeds job on a permanent basis.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale is keen to get a new manager in before the trip to Nottingham Forest on October 17th and O'Leary said: "We'll have to wait and see whether I'm in charge. I just hope for the sake of the club and the fans that the situation is resolved quickly and doesn't linger like the one with George.

"It would be lovely if we had a new manager in place in time for the Forest game."

Aston Villa boss John Gregory foresees no pain in Spain for his Premiership table-toppers after they were paired with Celta Vigo.

The midlanders could have faced a tricky clash with French side Marseille but they are instead off to Spain on October 20th, with the return game at Villa Park on November 3rd.

"It's a good one for Villa and I'm pleased the first leg is away as this suits us," said Gregory.

Like Villa, Liverpool face Spanish opposition, though the first leg of their tie with Valencia will be at Anfield.

Scottish champions Celtic are at home for the first leg of their tie with Swiss side FC Zurich, while Rangers travel first to Bayer Leverkusen of Germany.

Meanwhile, holders Chelsea, the only British side left in the Cup Winners' Cup after the demise of Newcastle and Hearts on Thursday, host FC Copenhagen of Denmark in the first leg.
