NICK O'HARE'S poor form over the Christmas period was wiped away in stylish fashion on the first day of the 25-nation World Swimming Cup in the £10 million Tollcross Leisure Park in Glasgow last night.
O'Hare finished fifth in the 100 metres freestyle against world class opposition. Michael Klim of Australia won the race in 48.66 seconds.
O'Hare destroyed the Irish record - 50.18 seconds set by Earl McCarthy of Aer Lingus in Frankfurt in February last year - touching in 50.02.
Lee Kelleher acquitted herself well in the 100 metres butterfly against Limin Liu, the Chinese Olympic silver medallist in Atlanta last year.
Liu won in 58.42 seconds with 14-year-old Lee sixth in 53.45, which compares favourably with the Irish senior record of 59.99 seconds held by Michelle Smith.
