Aidan O'Brien's two year old team for next week's Goodwood festival has gained further strength with the news that Pirate Of Penzance will now take his chance in the Richmond Stakes.
Pirate Of Penzance, beaten into second by Pan Jammer in the Anglesey Stakes last time out, had been an intended runner in this weekend's Prix Robert Papin but O'Brien said yesterday: "The ground has gone soft in France so we'll look at the Richmond instead."
Already scheduled to run at Goodwood are Bonnard in the Champagne Stakes on Wednesday and another Nureyev colt, the Navan winner Joplin, in the Molecamb Stakes.
O'Brien also confirmed that Manhattan will accompany Giants Causeway in the Sussex Stakes. "Manhattan doesn't mind going along in front if he has to and Giants Causeway likes a level pace," said O'Brien who proposed Warrior Queen as a runner in Tuesday's Group three King George Stakes over five furlongs.
Before that however, the Ballydoyle trainer will be at Galway on Monday to oversee the first racecourse appearance of Hemingway, a Spectrum half brother to Second Empire, in the seven furlong maiden.
