READING skipper Barry Hunter is determined to steer Northern Ireland to victory against Armenia today and raise World Cup hopes after defeat by the Ukraine in the opening group nine qualifier in August.
Hunter missed the defeat, after suffering a knee injury in the week leading up to the game, and stayed in Reading while the match was being played. "I couldn't believe the result. It was such a huge disappointment. I didn't think we could lose," said Hunter.
"I'm hoping to get the nod from the manager on Saturday, and all the lads are fired up. We are determined to do well."
Hunter is ready to resume his partnership with Leicester's Colin Hill in the centre of defence.
Hunter's inspirational form for Northern Ireland before the Ukraine match had been a bonus for manager Bryan Hamilton.
Leicester midfielder Neil Lennon said: "There will be no excuses if we lose this one. We need to return to the form we showed against Austria a year ago and bang in a few goals."
Southampton midfielder Jim Magilton is the only serious doubt in the squad as he is struggling with a knee injury.
The Armenians have arrived in Belfast and held a light training session at Seaview, the home of Crusaders, last night.
They are widely recognised as being one of the weaker nations in the group but still managed to force a 0-0 draw with Portugal.
