Gina Niland has been given a late call up to play in this weekend's four nations international tennis championship against England, Scotland, and Wales in Cardiff.
A back injury sustained by the higher world ranked Yvonne Doyle has created the vacancy and Niland, a regular in the side for almost a decade, will team up with Karen Nugent to defend the championship won by Ireland last year.
The matches, to be staged from Friday to Sunday, involve teams at senior, under-18 and under-14 level. Elsa O'Riain, the reigning Irish champion, and Stephen Nugent are currently competing in the Canadian junior open in Montreal and are notable absentees.
