Benito Carbone yesterday signed a four-year contract with Bradford City, despite chairman Geoffrey Richmond believing the player's transfer from Aston Villa was dead early yesterday following six hours of exhaustive talks in Milan.

But the Italian had a sudden change of heart, to the delight of Richmond, who has hailed Carbone as "a hero, a superstar, a breath of fresh air".

Paulo Wanchope has completed his record £3.65 million move to Manchester City from West Ham. The Costa Rican international striker passed his medical yesterday and has signed a five-year contract.

Alex Ferguson has hinted that Mark Bosnich will have to leave Manchester United if he wants regular first-team football. Ferguson insists Fabien Barthez is his first-choice goalkeeper. Bosnich rejected a loan move to Celtic last week.

Ferguson said on MUTV: "Well that was Mark's decision. I've not spoken to him, but I thought it was a good opportunity for him to go to Celtic - first-team action."

Leicester City manager Peter Taylor has told Celtic they will have to pay £8 million if they want to sign midfielder Neil Lennon.

Taylor said his "gut feeling" was that the Northern Ireland international would remain with Leicester, whom he joined five years ago from Crewe for £500,000.
