THE NEW professional era is graphically illustrated by the movement of players within Ireland next season. Seven internationals and a host of inter provincials are included in a list of 125 players who will appear in new colours next season.
The seven internationals are Vincent Cunningham (from St Mary's to Bective Rangers), Brian Rigney (from Shannon to Buccaneers), Nicky Barry (from St Mary's to Clontarf), Mark McCall (from Bangor to Dungannon), Peter Clohessy (from Young Munster to Garryowen), Kurt McQuilkin (from Bective Rangers to Lansdowne) and David Tweed (from Ballymena to Portadown).
In addition to getting Cunningham, Bective Rangers have also acquired the services old inter provincials Des Jackson and Andy Johnston from Old Wesley, Tony Gillen from St Mary's and prop John Maher from Buccaneers as well as Stuart Wilson (Old Wesley).
Cork Constitution, who have lost three internationals Gabriel Fulcher to London Irish and Paul Burke and David Corkery to Bristol have also lost wing Denis O'Dowd, who has moved to Dolphin, and interprovincial Brian Roche, who returned to Sunday's Well six weeks ago.
Ulster Cup holders Dungannon, who gained promotion to the first division of the All Ireland League, have also acquired the services of Malone scrum half Stephen Bell. But there is some compensation for Malone as Ulster interprovincial scrum half Neil Doak, an Ireland reserve against Fiji, has joined the club from NIFC.
St Mary's have been badly hit by departures. In addition to Cunningham, Gillen and Barry, interprovincial three quarter Gary Lavin has also left the club and joined Lansdowne where he will be linking up with McQuilkin. Two notable additions to the St Mary's ranks are under 21 internationals Ray McIlreavy (centre) and Emmet Byrne (prop).
Galwegians will have Connacht scrum half Diarmuid Reddan next season. Reddan captained the Old Crescent side to a 100 per cent record in the second division of the AIL last season.
