A HEADED goal from Trevor Vaughan salvaged an unsatisfactory point for Home Farm in their unremarkable opening Premier Division clash with fellow promoted side Bray Wanderers at Whitehall on Saturday afternoon.
Vaughan rose superbly above Bray's tall substitute Sean Byrne to head home off a post from John Kelly's fine right wing cross in the 74th minute for a much deserved equaliser.
Bray took the lead very much against the run of play 11 minutes into the second half, a bad goal from Home Farm's viewpoint. Left back Tommy Lawless's attempted back pass to goalkeeper, Brian O'Shea, ran kindly for Bray striker Ritchie Parsons who shot past O'Shea from 12 yards out.
Bray manager Pat Devlin was very disappointed in his side's showing.
"We were awful," he said. "I'm disappointed. I think as a spectacle it was a terrible game. I don't know why. I don't think anybody deserved to win it, although to be fair to them they did shade it."
Both sides had good scoring chances in the first half. Vaughan thundered a shot against the Bray crossbar, while Bray might have been ahead earlier but for a tremendous save from O'Shea.
