AS expected, Armagh driver Andrew Nesbitt won Sunday's White Horse Hotel Cavan Rally. At the wheel of his Toyota Celica GT4, Nesbitt had over two minutes in hand over Belfast dentist John Gilleece, who took maximum RIAC Coras National Rally Championship points in second place in his Ford Escort RS Cosworth.
Third placed Mickey Farrell made a strong comeback following his recent crash in the Carlow Stages to finish third in the Kenny McKinstry rental drive Subaru Legacy, while reigning champion Stephen Murphy struggled to finish fourth in the Statoil Escort Cosworth.
Nesbitt was quickest over the first three stages, but in the appalling conditions, rallycross star Denis Biggerstaff crashed his Metro 6R4 and Eugene Donnelly crashed his Escort Mk2 on the curtailed first stage.
