THE NAAS authorities will consult with Horse Racing Ireland today over a possible rescheduling of its “Cheltenham Trials Day” meeting which was cancelled yesterday due to snow.
Over an inch of snow fell on the track on Saturday night and although a final call about racing going ahead was deferred to 10am, the absence of a thaw resulted in the postponement.
It added to a terrible run of racing luck for the Co Kildare track which was losing a sixth meeting to the weather in just over a year. It was also the third Sunday fixture to be called off in that time.
“There is still snow on the track and it is still unraceable,” manager Tom Ryan said yesterday afternoon.
“We have had terrible luck, particularly with our Sunday meetings. They are the ones where you make a few quid to make up for those meetings when you lose out.
“We will be applying for a new meeting and we will discuss tomorrow when we can do that.”
Racing continues in Ireland with a double fixture at Fairyhouse tomorrow and Wednesday. There is racing scheduled for Thurles on Thursday while the 2010 Flat season opens on the Dundalk all-weather on Friday.
