IRISH interest in the British Girls Open amateur golf championship, at Formby on the Lancashire coast finally evaporated yesterday with the dismissal of 15 year old Dubliner, Pamela Murphy.

She beat Ormskirk's Chloe Ritson by three and two to reach the semi finals yesterday. It was level pegging early on, but the Irish teenager won three holes in a row from the ninth and then held on for a splendid success.

In the afternoon Murphy was involved in another nip and tack encounter, but in the end lost on the last green to Sarah Heath from Shropshire. "I've enjoyed the week and I feel I've played pretty well," said the four handicapper who can now look forward to representing Ireland in the home international series at Formby next week.

Marine Monnet will play Caroline Laurens in the first ever all French final of the championship proper this morning.
