VISITORS Munster were on top from the kick-off in this fixture against their English opponents on Saturday. Crotty, the Munster fullback, put in a fine touch to give Munster an early advantage. A tremendous tackle by Galway on Strett resulted in a successful penalty by Keane for Munster.

The Munster pack were having the better of these opening exchanges, but Orrell began to get more into the game. A series of drives by the Orrell pack and quick ball release saw new scrum-half Cook squeeze over in the corner.

Orrell again crossed the Munster line in similar fashion through winger Naylor. Keane chipped over the Orrell defence, collecting his own kick to score under the posts, making no mistake with the conversion.

As the Munster pack began to make inroads, the ball spun across the three quarters only for Lynch to lose the ball over the line. Munster held the advantage at halftime, (13-10).
